Titan Quest begins with a narrative recounting the primordial reign of the Titans, who once ruled before the light of the Olympian Gods appeared. After a great war, the Titans were exiled and imprisoned by the Olympians, and after sometime later, a trio of lesser-known Titans known as Telkines broke the conduit linking Olympus to the mortal world. The story unfolds as the player embarks on a journey from the village of Helos, fighting against armies of monsters unleashed by Telkines to free their kin. The player is guided by the Order of Prometheus, the player then defeats Telkines in Greece, attempting to restore the severed link between Olympus and the mortal world. Despite initial failure, the player pushes through and continues to persevere through Egypt and China, ultimately facing Typhon's release, threatening Olympus. Following the defeat of Typhon, humanity's resilience prompts Zeus to declare that humanity has proven itself to thrive without the protection of Olympus.
The expansion packs delve into the player's continued adventure where they descend into the Underworld to confront the source of an outbreak of monster attacks. Ragnarök sees the player venturing to Norse realms, aligning with Asgard's inhabitants against Jotunn invasion and Loki's treacherous schemes. Atlantis calls upon the player to aid Poseidon against the threats from the corrupted city. The Eternal Embers unfolds in China where players are challenged to address the prophecy-driven aggression of the ten sun spirits, seeking to avert the prophesied destruction and demise against mortals.

The announcement trailer of Titan Quest 2 gives us a sneak peek into what the game will be about. Set in ancient Greece with heavy inspiration from real life mythology like it's predecessor, the scene opens with three ladies, likely the Moirai, more commonly known as the Fates, inspecting a golden thread of fate. We are then pulled towards Sparta and the soldiers that march towards the city. The Fates go on to explain how Sparta was destined for greatness, until the scene changes and Nemesis, the Goddess of Retribution, angered by the immense ambition shown by mankind, is shown corrupting the threads of fate, condemning those caught to eternal punishment. The trailer ends on a hopeful note, with one lone soldier amongst the chaos gripping their weapon in defiance against the vengeful goddess.
As of now, we are unsure of how far after or before the first game Titan Quest 2 takes place. Titan Quest DLCs also explore other mythologies besides those of ancient Greece, leading the player character into ancient Egypt and China, and exploring the legends and stories of those areas. While the base game might be heavily centered on Greece, it is possible that future DLCs for Titan Quest 2 may delve into other popular mythologies and introduce new and exciting landscapes from their places of origin.
